The Community Development Team is a
service that provides adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to gain
access to social, education and leisure facilities.
One of my key roles' was the promotion
of a community presence for adults with learning difficulties. Creating
opportunities for employment and facilitating leisure activities appropriate to
the age of the person, by making full use of available resources in the local
neighbourhood predominantly within the Arts. . This is a service that relieved
carers as and when appropriate. As a bank member of staff, I worked across the
board mostly within projects such as:
- Tandem - a befriending scheme where service users are partnered with volunteers who share a similar interests
- LINCreach PLUS - a different type of outreach service, opening the door to a better life for high-risk and vulnerable adults with learning disabilities, tackling social isolation and exclusion
- LINClusion PLUS (a specialist and individualised service for young people with complex needs) - offering diverse holistic provision plans, for young adults with learning disabilities and complex needs living at home. Working across directorates, with parents/carers and other agencies
- The Life Time Project - The Life Time Project offers rehabilitation opportunities to older adults who attend day care centres or community groups and are socially isolated and disadvantaged due to their mental health needs or learning disabilities. Facilitating service user lead creative workshops, discussion groups and focus groups to encourage service users confidence and involvement in decision-making
